THE SPIRITUAL CHEMISTRY PRINCIPLE: WHY RIGHTEOUSNESS AND SIN DO NOT MIX

Scripture teaches a law of spiritual compatibility. Just as chemical elements react positively only when they are compatible, spiritual unions thrive only when there is alignment of spiritual nature, values, and allegiance.
The Apostle Paul uses strong contrasts – righteousness vs. lawlessness, light vs. darkness, Christ vs. Belial (Satan) – to emphasise that these realities cannot coexist without conflict.

“What harmony can there be between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?”
2 Corinthians 6:15 (AMP)

These contrasts are not about superiority but about spiritual authority, direction, and lordship. One life is governed by Christ; the other is not. When two people attempt to unite romantically under opposing spiritual authorities, tension becomes inevitable.

When Love Conflicts with God’s Will

Many sincere believers find themselves emotionally attached to unbelievers. At such moments, there is often a conflict between the heart and the head and between strong feelings and the revealed will of God.
Scripture never denies the reality of love or attraction, but it consistently teaches that feelings are not reliable guides for destiny decisions.

“The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; who can know it?”
Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV)

Love that contradicts God’s will may feel genuine, but truth must govern love, not the other way around.

Feelings Must Submit to Truth

God’s will is not designed to suppress joy but to preserve destiny, faith, and spiritual peace. When love and God’s perfect will collide, obedience must take precedence over emotion.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own understanding.”
Proverbs 3:5 (AMP)

“There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”
Proverbs 14:12 (AMP)

Love outside God’s order often leads to:

    • Compromised faith.

    • Gradual spiritual dullness.

    • Conflicting values in marriage.

    • Challenges in raising godly offspring.

“Can two walk together unless they are agreed?”
Amos 3:3 (KJV)

The Will of God Must Prevail

God’s will is always rooted in love, wisdom, and eternal perspective. Choosing obedience, even when painful, is an act of trust in God’s superior understanding of our future.

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Matthew 6:33 (AMP)

“For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you… plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster.”
Jeremiah 29:11 (AMP)

In matters of love and marriage, obedience protects what feelings cannot foresee. When righteousness and sin, light and darkness, Christ and Satan are brought into the same union, conflict is guaranteed – not because God is harsh, but because His design is holy and intentional.

Conclusion

Love is powerful, but alignment is more powerful.
Attraction may initiate a relationship, but shared lordship sustains it.
When love confronts God’s will, truth must lead, and feelings must follow.

“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Joshua 24:15 (KJV)
