COVENANT HOME LEADERSHIP (Part 2)

Covenant Home Leadership is the Kingdom way.

It reflects the relationship between Christ and His Church. It is first between a man and his Wife.

In a full family, it is a relationship between a man, his Wife, and his children. The Man is a servant leader, representing Christ’s service on earth. The Man is called to serve on a deeper level, like Christ Jesus – He is a Servant Leader.

He who is greatest among you, let him serve.

Luke 22:26

Humility is the bane (core) of Covenant Home Leadership. Humility is the antidote to a hard heart.

Your Wife is your covenant partner in God’s Grace of life to the Man. She is beside you, not under you. She is your co-labourer in Christ Jesus. She is NOT your slave (1 Peter 3:7).

Jesus Christ is Head over all things and has raised us together with Himself. Hence, the Wife is raised together with her husband in this partnership. As far as he can go in honour, she also can go along with him (Ephesians 2:6).

This is why the same protocol given to a president is detailed to his Wife as well. This is why the Father and Christ are one, and the Church and Christ are one, because we have been raised together with Him.

Headship in Christ’s context is Redemptive, Protective and Restorative. It is not destructive, demeaning and authoritarian.

The hierarchy for protection: God → Jesus → Man → Wife.

Jesus shields the home, and the Man must stand in agreement with Christ Jesus to secure his home from the evil one through His Righteous Leadership.

Again, the hierarchy of authority is not headless. Jesus is the Head. Hence, the husband must obey Jesus to ensure he leads well.

Many challenges in homes today stem from headless leadership. A man wilfully uses his authority against the will of God. This works more havoc than blessing, destroying His family and, by extension, his destiny in the process.

Covenant Home Leadership is not an autocracy. It is a covenant partnership between Jesus, the husband, and the Wife.

This leadership defies religious leadership and advances beyond church leadership into a love-based Covenantal relationship.

It mirrors Christ and His Church in intimacy, communication, nurturing and growth. The Covenantal Home leadership doesn’t just bark out orders; rather, it entreats the other in love, just as Christ Jesus lovingly calls us to walk in His footsteps.

Submission under this leadership is free to make decisions and to speak within biblical boundaries (Ephesians 5:21).

Paul said wives can ask questions at home. So, this means healthy discussion is welcome (1 Corinthians 14:30–36). The idea that whatever you say as the Man of the house is the final say is NOT SCRIPTURAL, because the God of the Earth said in His Word

Come let us reason together.

Isaiah 1:18

He was talking to us, not to His Angels. Meaning God is open to dialogue. If God is open to dialoguing with His people, you ought to be open to such as well, doing so patiently and in love with your Wife, because through healthy conversations, deep matters are resolved.

The Biblical Heart of Covenant Home Leadership

We’ll delve deeper into what the home ought to look like and how the relationship between Man and his Wife should be in God’s perfect design.

  •  JESUS Is Head.

And he put all things under his feet and gave him to be head over all things to the church, which is his body.

Ephesians 1:22–23

In a Christ-centred marital relationship, Jesus Christ is the Head. You submit to Him, and if you won’t obey Jesus, you will not lead well at home.

For example, when a man chooses to get drunk on beer and returns home and beats his Wife, he is on the verge of losing his Wife, his family, his home and his life! Why? Because he has chosen to be hardened in His heart against the truth (Matthew 19:8)

  •  Mutual Submission.

Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

Ephesians 5:21

Submission is mutual. You both yield to Christ.

This is not silence or powerlessness. It is a partnership.

 Husbands: Sacrificial Love.

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

Ephesians 5:25

You are called to lay down your life for her, not to crush her. You are to redeem her, not to destroy her.

Wives: Covenant Partnership.

However, in the Lord, the woman is not independent of the man nor the man of the woman. For as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God.

1 Corinthians 11:11–12

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh

Genesis 2:24

Through these scriptures, we see the divine dynamic of your relationship with your Wife. It is not linear; rather, it is co-dependent. She is beside you. You are one flesh with her, and you lead together as co-labourers in God’s vineyard.

This is why Kingdom marriages are so powerful: the husband and wife come together to serve the Lord, each bringing their gifting and anointing to align with Jesus in the humility of heart and soul. No, it’s not a competition; rather, it is a divine alliance of hearts.

  • Protection and Honour.

Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honour to the woman as to the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life.

1 Peter 3:7

You are given to her to protect her. Honour her and bless her daily, as she is your partner in Grace. This is exactly what Jesus does for you daily, and you are to do the same to your wife!

  • Accountability in the Home.

If your brother sins, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone… If he refuses to listen, take one or two others… If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church.

Matthew 18:15–17

You are not to endure sin alone. Address it with love and seek healing. Whenever you’re both in a strain over an issue, don’t keep it to yourselves; instead, seek help from your mentors, Christian counsellors, or coaches who can help you navigate the waters.

When God was to create you, He said,

Let US make man in our own Image

Genesis 1:26.

Wow! That was a grand statement and very impressive. God was saying to Jesus and the Holy Spirit, ‘We have a major project before us, and I’m not doing it alone.’

Proverbs 11:14 says, In the midst of a multitude of counsellors, there is safety! Marriage in isolation is doomed for failure. Hence, the need for good, seasoned and well-intended counsellors to help you in your journey, because a home without accountability is a home doomed to fail.

What Headship Really Means (And What It Does Not).

You do not need confusion. You need clarity.

1. Headship is functional, not hierarchical in superiority.

2. Headship is redemptive, not destructive.

So, you are not to destroy her spirit, soul, or body.

Think of an umbrella. You place it over your head to protect, not to beat you. Your Wife is within your protective head to be shielded, not harmed.

A man maltreating his Wife because he is “head” is maltreating himself, because through your marital vows, your destinies are now aligned with each other (Ephesians 5:31).

Covenant Home Leadership is not autocratic. It is a covenant partnership.

Hence, submission under this leadership allows speech, decisions, and discussion within biblical boundaries.

Characteristics of Covenant Home Leadership

The characteristics of covenant home leadership in Christ are endless in Christ because they directly draw their pattern from Christ, who said,

My Father and I are One

John 10:30

Jesus laid down His life for the church. So you must be ready to do the same.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it

Ephesians 5:25

Jesus spoilt principalities and powers for the church. You must never expose your Wife to demonic practices. Defend her. Shield her. Nurture her spiritually, emotionally, psychologically, and physically. Give her rest. Help her settle in a place of rest.

The Wife represents the church and must submit to God’s standard in her husband.

The free will of the church was never taken away. She must wilfully submit, not forcefully.
